Non-Profit Organisations – Opportunities
The non-profit opportunities Team of the Acquisition Committee is working to extend SEC’s network and relationships with non-profit organisations to score more opportunities and experiences for our members!

They are looking into SEC members’ preferences! Do you want to help them out? Fill out the (very short) Google Form that they have prepared:

Sociological Halloween Bingo!

The Academic and Political Committee has organised an event about Sociologists’ favourite hobby: criticise media representation!

The event will take place in the Common Room at REC, from 18.00 onwards.

We will be analysing a Horror film, by breaking it down to problematic tropes and descriptions and how casually they are used in genres like that!
We have prepared a bingo card to help look at specific categories, as well as games that help us dive into horror as a questionable genre!

‘Unapologetic by SEC’ Listening Party!

Did you know that SEC has a podcast, ‘Unapologetic by SEC’?
The podcast committee has worked really hard to record the first episode, which will come out on the 5th of November!

They are organising a first episode listening party on Friday, November 5th, right before the Halloween Borrel!

*The time and place still have to be decided*

I will end this month’s Newsletter with the monthly piece I like, this time by Roxane Gay:

” When you can’t find someone to follow, you have to find a way to lead by example. […], I’m trying to lead, in a small, imperfect way. I am raising my voice as a bad feminist. I am taking a stand as a bad feminist.

I offer insights on our culture and how we consume it. The essays in this collection also examine race in contemporary films, the limits of ‘diversity’, and how innovation is rarely satisfying; it is rarely enough. These essays are political and they are personal. They are, like feminism, flawed, but they come from a genuine place.
I am just one woman trying to make sense of this world we live in. I am raising my voice to show all the ways we have room to want more, to do better.”
