About SEC
Sociologisch Epicentrum (SEC) is the Study Association of Sociology at the University of Amsterdam. We are here to offer help and support to Bachelor, Master, and Pre-Master sociology students.
We aim to provide our 450 members academic, social, and career related events through events organised by us, collaborations with companies and organisation, and with the help of our lecturers and study advisors at the UvA.
Our goal is to create a safe and welcoming environment for every member, where students can create connections, learn critical and working skills, and grow academically & personally.
SEC functions thanks to its Board, seven Committees, and our wonderful Sponsors, who provide us with resources and help.
SEC was established in the year 1987 under the name “James, Vereniging van Sociologiestudenten”. On January 6 in the year 2000, the name was changed to “Sec, Sociologisch Epicentrum”.
The Board, with a mandate of a year, is responsible for the variety of events and trips organised, the financial status, administration, and SEC’s external relations.
