Song of the month: Amígo – Chef’Special

Dear Sociologists!

You might have heard about our magazine ‘Sociologisch Mokum’, also called ‘SoMo’. If not, let me introduce ourselves:
Sociologisch Mokum is the magazine made for and made by students in Sociology of the University of Amsterdam. But of course, anyone with an interest in the social life and society can read it. In every edition, you can read about sociological topics, written by students or teachers from the social sciences. Apart from that, you can find movie reviews, columns, interviews with students, articles and more. Also, for you, international student: if you wish to contribute to Sociologisch Mokum, write us an email. Sociologischmokum@gmail.com. One can find the SoMo in and around Roeterseiland, where it is distributed four times a year. Unfortunately, until now, pieces are mostly in Dutch, but we have the ambition to transform in more international magazine to coming years. With respect to that we would like to have your attention for the next vacancy:

Easter lunch (04/04)

The chocolate eggs are already on the shelves and that means only one thing: it is Easter! Of course an Easter breakfast cannot be missed. Because we do not like to get up early, we will tackle things a bit differently and organize a luxurious Easter lunch! Totally free. Lunch is for both teachers and students and will take place on the 6th floor of REC. So bring your fellow students along and come before or after your lecture to enjoy tasty sandwiches, other delicacies and conviviality!

Double Trouble borrel (05/04)

SEC is 30 years old and that is why we are working on a lustrum almanac. For this we are looking for your help! On Thursday 5 April we organize a Double Trouble drink: a lecture with free food and a drink afterwards. The prices of the drinks will be increased by € 0.50 this evening, but the proceeds go directly to the almanac! Do you want to help too?

Holes in the Network(s) – Youth and Social Media in Iran (10/04)

It’s already time for the career week! In week 15 we will organize various events focused on the career of sociologists. The first activity is a career lecture by dr. Raz Zimmt, working at the university of Tel Aviv:
Dr. Raz Zimmt will talk about his career and his current work and research. He will discuss the Iranian youth as revealed through their use of social media, their views and wishes and their position in the current Iranian society as revealed using social media as a source for research. Also, you can learn about career options for scholars in this area.

Music Roulette (11/04)

Only ten more nights until we we host a party in Panama! The Music Roulette is the biggest party of the year and organized together with all our brother associations. As the name suggests, we will dance at 8 music genres at the Music Roulette! Each association has a different genre, and we have got hip-hop as a theme. During the party there will be a wheel to determine which genre it’s up to. So enough variety in one evening! Tickets cost only 5 euros!
