Your monthly update
December is here with it a fresh, new newsletter. We are getting ready to go home for the holidays and be carefree until the new year.
After handing out more than 70 tosties at our tosti party we needed a moment to relax and regenerate. We are planning another event like that so let us know whether you would like us to host something similar. Food is always a good idea.
Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, the first interdisciplinary lecture, or so called ‘The Other Perspective”, in collaborations with our friends from Anthropology was postponed until March 4th. So save the date 🙂
We will reserve some rooms for you to study for the exams and on the 20th of December we will have the last borrel of the year! It will be a Christmas Vrijmibo (an afternoon traditional borrel). More info to follow soon.
On November 20th we took over ClubUp for the first big party of the year. Some romantic drama went on between some study associations, but also some dance battles. Photos are as usual now on our website https://www.

As the winter break is slowly approaching, we thought it would be a great idea to meet up before we leave for vacation and have a wholesome yet fun dinner together to celebrate the friendships we’ve made so far and the knowledge we have acquired in the past semester. As the weather is getting colder we decided that it would be nice to have a themed dinner party in order to bring up the excitement with a bit of dressing up! During the evening we will also have a pubquiz! This year, the theme will be Christmas so bring out your red and green clothes, or your fancy dress. Everybody is welcome so non-members can also join the dinner.
When: December 5th, 6:00 pm
Where: Nessst, Paul van Vlissingenstraat 2B, 1096 BK Amsterdam
Cost: €12,50 (welcome drink, main course meal and dessert)
You can sign-up here: https://forms.gle/
Like every year, we are designing our own SEC sweater to keep you warm in these cold months. The design is still under way but we would like to know if you are interested in getting one:
UvA Innovation Workshop
Are you creative and curious how to expand your knowledge, and do you want to improve the world? Do you like to learn and solve complex problems in an international context? Then you should participate in the UvA Innovation Workshop on Design thinking! The two winning teams get a fully paid trip to the International Innovation Bootcamp (20-24 April) in Lublin, Poland.
In the workshop you will work in a team of students on the challenge of how to combine science, art and humanities to improve UvA education. You will use the innovation approach called Design thinking.
ON THE RADAR
This time of the year comes with a lot of controversy in the Netherlands. Sinterklaas is back and so is an ongoing debate of the legitimacy of the celebration in the 21st century.
An interesting video of why the holiday has been problematic and still creates friction in Dutch society: https://www.youtube.
Let us now / Speak your mind
This year we want to offer you a new varied experience. This is why we want to hear from you and what you would like to see in upcoming events, activities and even newsletters. Everything is accepted.
